Loretta is one of our star knitters-- one of her many talents that she contributes to this world. Whatever she does, Loretta is fearless and enjoys the journey.

Loretta was the middle of seven children in a poor, single-parent family. Born partially blind and mildly retarded, she was unable to walk or talk until age four. She soon began to run and her phenomenal success as a runner has earned her celebrity status.

Loretta Claiborne We however, are thrilled to work with Loretta as our star knitter. Our sweaters and socks are Loretta's handwork. She tells us that as a young child she liked to walk around dangling a piece of string. When she was nine years old, a neighbor friend decided to teach her how to put that string to better use and taught Loretta how to knit...on pencils. Loretta graduated to knitting needles and takes her knitting wherever she goes!

And go she does. As a motivational speaker and Global Messenger of the Special Olympics, Loretta carries on a lifelong career and mission to show that persons with mental and physical disabilities are equal to those without. Read more about Loretta (lots of pictures) on her website.
